Photos of Common Fishes in the Lower Mekong River cover

Photos of Common Fishes in the Lower Mekong Basin

This document is the updated photo book of existing fish species that can be found in the Mekong River. It has been developed in close collaboration with the MRC Former Fisheries Programme and the corresponding national line agencies. All fishes are presented in the four national languages making it useful for every stakeholder. The book will act as a tool for local fishermen to generate standardised fish catch records across the MRC Member Countries and contribute to nationally and regionally harmonised datasets.

Mekong sediment from the MRC Council Study Technical notedocx 1

Mekong Sediment from the Mekong River Commission Study

This technical note presents the results of modelling changes in sediment loads in the Mekong basin by employing water resource modelling to support the impact assessment, which is part of the study. The results discussed here indicate that existing and proposed dams in the Mekong basin are expected cumulatively to have significant impacts on sediment loads entering the Mekong delta.

Water loss from LMB reservoirs Technical note 1

Water loss from reservoir development in the Lower Mekong Basin

This short technical note describes the effect of reservoir development in the Lower Mekong Basin on water loss derived from evaporation and seepage. Findings translate that the water loss in Cambodia and Lao PDR increases in proportion to the number of proposed reservoirs in 2020 and 2040. Additionally, seepage is a dominant factor of the water loss as evaporation could be compensated by rainfall. Finally, the water loss is considered insignificant when comparing to inflow to the reservoirs.

Annual Mekong Flood Report 2015

This Annual Mekong Flood Report 2015 discusses lessons learned over the past 10 years. It looks at what happened over those years and draws lessons that the region can learn from as each of the Mekong countries works to cope with flood and drought. One of the particular lessons this report highlights is that there is certainly a need to strengthen the integrative approach to cope with future water resources related challenges in the Mekong River Basin.

Sesan and Srepok Water Issues (English)

The leaflet presents a summary of findings from a joint study between Cambodia and Viet Nam on cross-border water resources management in the Sesan-Srepok river basins shared by the two countries. The study identifies six priority issues such as insufficient monitoring and assessment of water flow, lack of flood forecasting and warning mechanisms, and limited mitigation measures to address the impacts of hydro-infrastructural development. Addressing these challenges require closer bilateral cooperation.
